Parent Teacher Meetings are in full swing. It has been lovely to have a chat with so many of you already and I look forward to seeing everyone else on Monday and Tuesday. Please knock on the door at your appointment time. It really helps to keep the meetings on track. Thanks.
We finished up the week with a bang (or a sugar buzz) at the cake sale. Thank you so much for all of the kind donations of cakes and buns to the sale. You would have been extremely proud parents to see how well behaved your children were there. For some children, it was a little overwhelming initially and hard to figure out where to start in the hall with so many lovely treats. Imagine...doing our own shopping! A few children were in awe at picking everything themselves. The Parents' Association were fantastic, helping us to pay the right money (since that is too hard for us still) and putting all of treats in bags. The children were very excited to buy raffle tickets and we even had a winner in our class. Take a look at all of these happy (chocolatey) faces.

This week, we have been working on the number 4. We have learned to write it using the rhyme "Down and over, down some more. That's the way we make a 4." We are doing lots of practice counting items up to 4. We try to count in lines going across and we touch each item that we count. We also don't go too fast as that can get confusing. We did "Number 4" stations on Friday, to practice all of our skills.
Rocaí Rua had a blast going home with the children. We are very sorry that he is behaving so badly in some people's houses but it has certainly entertained the class and the imaginative stories are hilarious. We have been getting a lot of oral language out of it and have been practicing asking questions. Check out the children sharing their Rocaí Rua news. (We even had a little zumba dancing demonstration from Tyrese and Rocaí.
We worked on our letters k and l this week. During morning activities, we practiced our letter formation using the lacing cards. It was a challenge! Here we are doing our activities. We have started to work really well in pairs or even table groups to build things together with the blocks. And Zoe here has been writing her name using the blocks.
In Art/Geography we made planet Earth on paper plates, swirling paint with our fingers, while in ziplock bags. And in PE we had lots of fun with beanbags.

Finally, a huge big thank you to all of the little stars in Room 1. Some children have been SO patient waiting to be Star of the Week and I know how hard it is. It isn't a reflection of their behaviour or work if they haven't had the award yet. They are all fantastic and I'd love to give it to each child, every week but can't. I choose quite randomly at this age and really appreciate all the patience.
