Oh it is certainly getting cold out there. We have been doing a lot of talk about the weather and trying to find different words to describe it. We have been taking turns being the classroom weather forecaster, speaking into the mic and telling the class about the weather today. There are lots of very eager children ready for this role. Of course, with the cold weather we have lots of extra clothing - hats, scarves and gloves, as well as bulkier coats. Independence is naturally really important and the children are expected to be able to close their own coats by now and get themselves prepared for yard. There are still a few children struggling with coats so lots of practice is needed. We try to give them time in school to do it for themselves. Please keep this up at home too and ensure they are dressing themselves and working on being independent. As I am sure you will understand, it is physically impossible for me to put on 60 gloves at little and big break. If your child is unable to do gloves yet (and they are tricky!) please get them a pair of mittens to use instead.
The children were delighted to have Big Adam in Monday and he will be back again this week for extra PE. This will be ongoing for the next few weeks. If any children are interested, there is a fantastic Macra club up in St Anne's on a Saturday morning. The children play loads of games to build up skills and work through different stations for an hour. Ben even made it onto the flier!

We have been working on our sounds "z" and "w" this week. It is starting to get trickier to find words starting with these sounds. Try playing "Eye Spy" on the way home or at the dinner table and look out for our sounds and our sight words in their books.
In maths, we have been working on the concept of "the same, more and less." Most of the children have a great grasp of this from sharing with others already.
We had lots of fun on Friday, cutting wavy lines to make Zeb's tail. Cutting the wavy line was quite challenging and was a struggle for some. It was worth it though. Look at the imaginative way they used their "tails!"

And finally, here we are working on our morning stations. The lacing boards were tricky for many but the children concentrated really hard (as you can see!) and we will continue to work on them. We had 2 colour pattern boards that the children were flying through and most extended onto 3 colour patterns (eg, red, green, yellow, red, green, yellow, red....) and a couple of children even managed to do 4 colour patterns!
