We are 3 weeks into Junior Infants now and the children are really settling in and getting used to the routine of school. We had our very first "Star of the Week" on Friday. A big congratulations to Shane for all of his kindness, friendship and hard work in school. Don't worry though, every child will have a chance to be star of the week. There might just be a little bit of a wait.
We have been revising our nursery rhymes, learning about the characters in our readers (we haven't start these yet) and of course, we have been practicing our letter sounds. We have just completed phase 1 of Jolly Phonics sounds - s a t i p n Have a look at this link on YouTube and keep practicing at home with games like "I Spy" and "Going on a Sound Hunt."

In maths, we have been matching and finding pairs. We have also been working on 2-colour patterns, which lots of the children are already fantastic at. The children have been doing lots of colouring, to help strengthen their muscles in their hands and improve hand-eye co-ordination. Encourage them to keep practicing at home.
I will put up photos of the children here when I get back the permission slips from all families. We just have 1 or 2 missing still.
