We're back with a bang! We were straight back into hard work and revising over what we did before Christmas. We have now learned all the initial sounds of the alphabet. We are looking at the sound "ch" now. We have found lots of 'ch' words. If your child seems to have a good grasp of the sound, challenge them to find 'ch' at the end of a word. They could start off rhyming words or looking for them in their books, on signs or on packaging. Here are two lists from Seomra Ranga to give you some ideas.
The children are excited about beginning to write. We started with our number 1 last week. The formation is always from top to bottom and we do a simple straight line. This week we will be doing the number 2 and the letter 'i.' In Junior Infants, we only write lowercase letters, except for the beginning of our name. Many of the children will recognise the capital letters but we won't be learning the correct formation for writing them until Senior Infants.
We had fun playing games to practice our sight words. We read the words and jumped over them to reach the finish line. We also played a dice game that you can play at home with the sightword cards. Write the numbers 1-6 on the back of the word cards and put them face down. Take turns rolling the dice and reading the word underneath. The card is kept if it is read correctly. If there are no cards left with that number, then you miss a turn. The winner has the most cards at the end.
I rang Gaeilge, tá muid ag foghlaim faoin aimsir. In Irish lessons, we are learning about the weather.
Bhí muid ag imirt "Cá bhfuil teidí?" Dúirt Enda "An bhfuil mé te nó fuar?" Dúirt na páistí "Tá tú fuar," "tá tú te" nó "tá tú an-te. Tá tú ar tine!" We were playing "Where is Teddy?" Enda said "Am I hot or cold?" The children said "You are cold," "You are hot" or "you are very hot. You are on fire!"
Finally, here are some pictures of the children at work and play. :)
