I hope everyone has settled in well. We have been busy, busy, busy in school, getting to know each other, playing and learning! We have just finished our first few full days of school and there were lots of tired children going home today!
We had our first "Star of the Week" today, which you will be hearing a lot about. This is a weekly award that Ms Martin gives out. The children get a little prize and their photo goes on the "Star of the Week Wall." Of course, all the children are stars every week...it just takes time for everyone to have their turn.
We are doing a lot of work on our fine motor skills at the moment, strengthening our hands and fingers. We use pinch pegs; roll, poke and squeeze Play-Doh; scrunch and tear newspaper; pop bubble wrap, colouring in and lots of other things. If you can do some work on this at home it would be great.
We use the phonics programme Jolly Phonics, to learn the letter sounds (not letter names) and so far we have covered the sounds s a t i p. There are actions and songs that go along with the sounds. Playing games like "I Spy" and emphasising the sound at the beginning of a word can be really helpful in reinforcing these sounds. Here are a songs in phase 1, which we have nearly finished.
